Sin has been defeated

we-shall-overcome

“The same power that conquered the grave lives in me!”

How many people listen to Hillsong? They are an absolutely amazing worship band that came out of Hillsong Church in Australia, where God is doing some absolutely amazing things. Being a drummer with a lot to learn, you will frequently see me quoting worship lyrics in my posts. I noticed and loved this song musically when I first heard it, because of the build-up and the tense atmosphere that the song has …. the slow melody and soft rhythm slowly becoming engulfed in a driving beat leading armies of people worshipping God … and then the words actually hit me:

The same spirit that defeated sin itself is living within all of us.

The biggest and most amazing power is in you and in me. Guys, if that spirit is actually living within us, lust shouldn’t be a problem. When Jesus raised from the dead He put sin to death. We should have an astronomical passion for living like Jesus Christ; Your brain shouldn’t be dropping three feet every time you see a girl in a mini-skirt. Sin should be completely evaporating out of our lives all together.

Proverbs 10:9 says: “He who walks in integrity walks securely.”

I love you guys. I want the best for you, and God wants the best for you. But you have to be the best to get the best. Walk with integrity; Walk with God. It’s much better than by yourself. I’ve been on the other side of the fence. It’s a lonely road, and God doesn’t want your life to be a country song. Be Godly, be pure, live by integrity. Hey, man, God loves you. It’s worth the effort. Trust me.

Hmm.. That was the shortest blog I have ever read. but it’s amazing how 7 words can be more inspiring than 3000. This generation we live in today is astounding. We are the most passionate generation I have ever seen. But where is the passion for Jesus? I see this in youth groups, and in Church. I guess I watch my peers around me, anyone from the age of 13-18. I see them laughing, being crazy, having fun, but When the worship comes on, they just stand there. Something’s missing in this picture. Is it fear? is it pride? is it a bit of both? What can we do to boost the pasion for Jesus in today’s generation? Because no matter how many videos you’ve got, or how rockin’ the worship team is, the tough truth is that being a Christian isn’t cool. Here’s my question. Feeding a fire is easy, but how can we start fires?

    Good post Jay.

Watcha Got?

Today is the first post by Ben Brock, my little (bigger) brother!

We all got our things; our bling , our tv’s, our Ipods, whatever IT, is we got something. I mean if you are reading this on a computer of your own you make up only 12% of the world population which owns a computer. And if you live in a house/apartment and have more than 3 pairs of clothes, you are among the top 20% that make up the “richest” people in the world.

I’ve been thinking over the past couple months about how much has been given to me in my life time. I’m blessed with a great family, a good school, a job, a computer, good food, a house and clothes on my back. As I think of some of these things I can get prideful, for some things I say to myself “yeah I got that” or “I earned that money”. But did I?

Here’s the thing about God, He is a generous God, but He can take it away in a heartbeat. Materials get lost, stolen. Family gets sick or even dies. Money disappears. Jobs are lost. What happens then? God happens. He wants to be first in everything, materials fade, God is forever. Lives are lost, God comforts and heals. Money is gone, God can bless if He is put first in the finances. He wants our lives, our whole lives, because He gave His son for us. He deserves more then we can imagine.

It says in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Know that we are blessed and that He wants our hearts because He gave his for us!
Peace!
